Anne Lichtenstein

Anne Lichtenstein, a native Texan and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, died peacefully just two weeks short of her 103rd birthday on Friday, August 28, 2015. Anne was born on September 12, 1912 in Tyler, Texas, the youngest daughter of William and Lena Cacir. As a young child, she moved to Houston with her family, where she graduated from Central High School. For several years Anne worked at Foley Brothers department store. She met her husband, Edwin, in Houston and they were married on June 11, 1939. Anne cherished and maintained a close relationship with her entire family. She enjoyed baking and her homemade cookies, cakes and pies were the frequent hit at numerous family celebrations. Anne was an avid baseball fan, visited with friends several times a week at the Jewish Community Center, and enjoyed playing BINGO, cards and dominoes. Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Edwin; her parents; her siblings Ida Rosenthal and her husband Kelly, Rae Cacir, Louis Cacir, Bertha Wesler and her husband Nate, Harry Cacir and his wife Helen, Mollie Cacir; her brother-in-law Morris Lichtenstein and his wife Jennie Fay; her sister-in-law Henrietta Kowalski Kessler and her husband Alexander Kowalski; and nieces Geraldine Heller and her husband Morton, Susan Hoffman, Benjamin Kowalski, Adele Adelstein, Carolyn Kowalski, David Kolodny, and Shirley Alter and her husband Jack. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Alwais of Houston; two grandsons and their spouses, Jerrold and Shirley Alwais of Missouri City, TX; and Randall and Amber Alwais of San Antonio, TX; and three great-grandchildren, Edward, Alexander, and Rebecca Alwais; as well as nieces and nephews Wenda Kolodny, Harris Lichtenstein and his wife Martha, Dennis Lichtenstein; and numerous great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and other relatives that all share warm memories. Anne's family wishes to thank the loving care expressed by so many friends and family, most notably Alice Britton, as well as the staff at Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services. The funeral service will be held graveside at Beth Israel West Dallas Street Cemetery on August 30, officiated by Rabbi Adrienne Scott. Anne had a positive, upbeat spirit that will be remembered fondly and greatly missed. She was loved by many because she shared her love with everyone.
