Gary Coplin

Gary Sam Coplin passed away on Thursday, Februrary 4th, 2016, after an accident while on his way to his beloved Beth Yeshurun synagogue for morning services. Gary leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Laura E. Rosson Coplin and his son, Spencer B.R. Coplin; his sister Gail James and family of Ft. Worth; his brother Sherwin Coplin and family of Ft. Worth; his mother-in-law Dorothy Rosson of Shreveport, La. as well as numerous extended family in Washington state. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Nyman Coplin and Alice Kuiken Coplin. Born in Ft. Worth, May 28th, 1945, Gary was a Ft. Worth resident until being transferred to Houston, Tx in 1977. Gary graduated from Pascal High School in Ft. Worth in 1963 and University of Texas, Arlington, with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1967. Gary proudly served in Navy Reserves, then moving to active duty in the United States Navy 1969-1971, leaving with a National Defense Service Medal and high security clearance. Gary was active in various VA activities and charities as well as his synagogue. He was also an active member of Houston Elks Lodge #151 in Stafford, Tx. He was most proud of anything having to do with helping his treasured fellow veterans. Gary came from a long line of business owners on his father's side, a tradition he passed on to his son Spencer. Gary was active in many organizations in Ft. Worth including B'nai B'rith and Boys Scouts of America. He was instrumental in his beloved son receiving the Eagle Scout award from Boy Scouts of America where he was highly active in his son's troops throughout the years. After moving to Houston Gary was active in the local Houston radio scene in the late 1970's, where he met his future wife, Laura. He continued his radio involvement expanding to the Ft. Worth talk radio arena, traveling every weekend from Houston to Ft. Worth to do his own weekend show. In his younger days Gary enjoyed water skiing, playing the piano and guitar. He had a passion for 1950's music as well. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the VA and most especially Dr. Sheila LoboPrabhu, Dr. Aliya Sarwar, Dr. Courtney Bel, PhD. and Dr. Amitha Rao for their diligent, proactive and exceptionally compassionate service to Gary.
