David Allan Eldridge

David Allan Eldridge was born October 8, 1946, in Dallas TX to Evelyn “Evvy” (Wortsman) Eldridge and Zellner Eldridge and died on July 15, 2026. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nancy (Munn) Eldridge, his sons Scott Eldridge of Fremont CA, and Ryan O’Pry of Dallas, grandsons Ian O’Pry and Vincent Hooks of Dallas, and Zachary Eldridge and Zachary’s mom, Julie Wisefield of San Jose CA, his sister Beth Eldridge and spouse Susan Carrigan of Galveston, his godson, Steven Solomon of Bethesda Md., and several California and Utah cousins and many friends. His dog buddy, Lester, who was 18 years old when he died was a great source of joy for David through the years. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1964, where he was part of the so called “Three Musketeers” growing up who were (Paul Marks, Bobby Solomon and David) where they were lifelong friends and had many adventures. He graduated from Tulane University in 1968, and UT Law School in 1973. His law school days were interrupted by Uncle Sam when he joined the 94th Combat Support Hospital unit of the Army Reserves where he served for 6 years. David was a third-generation lawyer as his grandfather, David Albert, and his father, Zellner, were also attorneys. His specialty was wills, trusts, and probate. He joined his father’s firm of Eldridge, Goggans, and Weiss, then he joined the firm of White Cox and Larson, later he formed the firm of Holman, Robertson, and Eldridge. His last few years he had a solo practice in an office at his home. He practiced law for over 50 years and was friends with many of his clients. He was voted a Super Lawyer in 2003 and served as a stand in judge for Judge Robert Price in 1998. David was in Leadership Dallas in the class of 1983. He became President of United Cerebral Palsy for two years. (now Ability Connection) and served on the board for many years. He was the attorney for the Press Club and helped write for the Press Club Gridiron shows. He was very involved with his son, Scott’s Boy Scout Troop 473 and was very proud when Scott became an Eagle Scout. He also coached Scott’s soccer team and was involved with him in the YMCA Adventure Guides. He enjoyed traveling, working in the yard, reading, and socializing with friends. His favorite trips were to England, Australia and New Zealand, Turkey and Greece, Costa Rica, and especially Cuba with a fun group from Dallas and Austin. Cruises to Alaska were also a favorite. He and Nancy loved Kauai, Hawaii with their friends Maureen and R J Watts. They also enjoyed being with Gail and Bobby Solomon on many travel journeys. Collector cars were a passion, and he restored a 1939 Chevy, and he and his friend Gary Matesic bought a 1953 Henry J that won numerous awards and was in several national drag races. He also had a Harley Davidson for about 10 years, and he and friends went on several exciting trips on their bikes around Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. He was known for his dry sense of humor and quick come backs in conversations. He always left people laughing. The burial will be at Temple Emanu-El Cemetery at 9:30 am at 3430 Howell Street Dallas 75204 where his parents and two sets of grandparents are at rest. They are David L and Amelia Brown Wortsman and David Albert and Blanche Zellner Eldridge. David’s Eldridge pioneer family roots were from Jefferson, TX where his great-grandfather, Phillip Eldridge, was a prominent Jewish merchant there in the mid 19th century. Phillip and his brother and sister immigrated from Prussia in 1855. Services will be held at Temple Emanu-El at 8500 Hillcrest Avenue Dallas 75225 on July 20 at 11 am in the Stern Chapel with a reception to follow at the Tycher Gathering Space.
