ANNE EDWINA DRUTZ

ANNE EDWINA DRUTZ age 74 of Bellaire, Texas died December 12, 2018 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Consistent with her characteristic determination to remain strong and resilient, she confronted the circumstances of her illness with a positive acceptance, rarely if ever voicing complaint. She was and will continue to be an inspiration to many, especially her family, who loved her dearly and was at her bedside at her passing. Blessed with multiple talents, she was a role model for exhibiting optimal parenting skills, knowing just how to cope with her children's problems and concerns. She was an avid tennis player with an exceptional gift for making it difficult for many of her opponents to return well- placed strokes. An excellent chef, she was remarkable at being able to prepare delicious meals, always with an artistic flair. Among her dessert specialties was flan. After a year at the Parsons School of Design in New York City in 1964, she enhanced an already innate talent in being able to capture the art of material design, texture and color. She and her husband, Jan, met in undergraduate school at the University of Louisville in 1962 and were married three years later while he was attending medical school. They moved to Houston in 1968 for his internship and residency training. Despite not knowing anyone, Anne quickly adapted to the Houston surroundings and as typical for her, readily developed friendships with neighbors and acqaintances. Her passing will leave a significant void for many who knew and loved her as a warm, caring human being with a heart of gold. She is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Jan Edwin Drutz, their children and their spouses and grandchildren - Jeffrey B. Drutz and his daughter Nina and her mother Ana Acosta; Lisa and her husband Cory Mackey, sons Jacob and Jonah of Spring, Texas; Dana Drutz and her husband, Jackson Swanson of Portland, Oregon; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dr. David and Lydia Drutz, children, Gretchen, Greg and Jonathan of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Adam of Houston; brother-in-law Ken Boiarsky of Denver, Co., children Jason Boiarsky, Megan Boiarsky (husband - Randy) and Russell (wife - Deb) Boiarsky of Columbus, Ohio; aunt Clarice Drutz, Marla Drutz (husband Ronald Kaplovitz and son David) of Detroit, Michigan; cousin Mark and wife Lisa Drutz and their daughters (Hannah, Nora and Jamie) of Prescott, Arizona. The Drutz family would like to extend their most sincere thanks and grateful appreciation for the incredible help and caring provided by the Houston Hospice team. The family requests that expressions of condolence be in the form of donations to the Dan L Duncan Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine, the Texas Childrens Hospital Cancer Center or the Pancreatic Cancer - American Cancer Society.
