ALLEN BROOKS

Allen Shea Brooks, born December 20, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio to Ida and Julius Brooks, died at his home on January 4, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Allen Brooks is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lenore Gabe Brooks, daughters and son-in-laws, Jill and Steven Grossman, Patti and Jonathan Kagan, Melanie and Stan Levy, and Cindy and Burk Streusand, as well as his grandchildren, Evan Grossman David and husband Brandon David, Hayden Grossman, Drew and Morgan Levy, Jennifer, Harry, and Nathan Kagan, and Ian, Quinn, and Tess Streusand. Allen Brooks is also survived by his 94-year-old sister Marcia Lewis and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. After growing up in Los Angeles, California, Allen decided to give Houston a try and visited his sister and family. He enrolled in the University of Houston and later enlisted in the armed forces. After serving in the army for two years, he returned to the University of Houston to complete his BBA in business. While at the University of Houston, he met the love of his life, Leni, at a Beth Yeshuran dance in 1956. The two were married in 1957. After living in New Jersey for a brief time, the couple returned to Houston to start their family which grew to include four beautiful daughters. In 1964, Allen and Lenore formed Brooks Duplicator Company, which remains a family business today. Allen ran the business for forty six years until he retired after his 80th birthday when he passed the torch on to his daughters. Allen and Lenore enjoyed travelling to all corners of the earth and visited nearly every continent on the globe. Allen had a passion for collecting antique guns and swords. He viewed each one as a piece of art, and took great pride and care of his collection. His grandchildren lovingly referred to him as "Papa Allen". He shared a special bond with each of his ten grandchildren. Time spent with Papa Allen included playtime, travel, and plenty of hugs and kisses. The grandkids were fascinated by his collection of army men, tanks, swords and guns. He loved to spend time explaining the history of his collectibles to everyone who came over to the home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the amazing caregivers who enabled Allen to live out his days in his home and attend all of the important events of the family. Shelly, Lovoria, Bruce, Nathan, Diana and Christian took great care of Allen and became a part of the family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at 2:30pm, at the Kagan-Rudy Chapel, Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet, Houston, Texas.
