Alan Bruce Miller

Alan Miller, a distinguished New York attorney renowned for his expertise in bankruptcy law, passed away after a remarkable life defined by professional excellence, intellectual curiosity, devotion to family, and a love of adventure. Born in New York City on June 22, 1937, to Evelyn and Alvin Miller, Alan was raised in Mount Vernon and New Rochelle, New York, in Westchester County. He attended Deerfield Academy then went on to attend Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, before earning his Juris Doctor degree from Boston College Law School in 1962. After graduating, Alan was admitted to the practice of law in New York and joined the law firm of Berman, Frost, Feinsilber & Morris in New York City. In 1966, he and his partners merged with the firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges. Alan became a partner in 1972 and remained with the firm until his retirement in 2005. Throughout his legal career, Alan became widely respected as an outstanding practitioner in the field of bankruptcy law. Known for his sharp intellect, integrity, and steady leadership, he built a reputation as one of the most trusted professionals in his field. Even after retiring from active practice, courts and corporations continued to seek his expertise. Alan developed an esteemed reputation as an independent director for financially troubled entities, serving in that role for many years until his final retirement in 2012. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Alan was deeply devoted to his family. He shared 52 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Susan Plosky, until her passing. He was a loving and devoted father to Andrew John Miller and the late Michael James Miller, and a proud grandfather to Hannah. Alan embraced life fully outside the office as well. He loved sailing, saltwater fly fishing, and travel, pursuits that reflected both his adventurous spirit and appreciation for the world around him. In later years, he shared companionship and happiness with his second wife, Carene Hunt Miller, and her son, William Robert Hunt. Alan will be remembered for his brilliance, warmth, loyalty, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. His legacy endures through his family, friends, colleagues, and the many people whose lives he touched throughout his extraordinary career and personal journey.
